Would you like more green tea?

Happy May!!
So I didn’t end up taking the bus anywhere yesterday, although I did copy down the schedules of the two buses I’ll be using most. Tomorrow I have a meeting with my supervisor, and I’ll be taking the number 1 bus up to Trent for that…it’s quite a long trip actually, about 40 minutes on the bus.
It was hot here yesterday! I got some colour on my face and chest just from walking to Natas and back. It was nice to see the area in the sunshine. But the highlight of yesterday was finally meeting Kristen, who is also doing her Master’s with the same supervisor as me, and Veronique, who is doing her Master’s on bowhead whales but is part of a group called the Avian Appreciation Association. They were going out for sushi last night and invited me along J we went to a place called Ming’s, which is an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant. For a fixed price (14.99) you can order round after round of sushi delights, but if you leave any on the plate you get charged extra, so it’s good to order in moderation. The food was fantastic, and the place had some of the most attentive service I’ve ever experienced. Four different servers routinely popped up to ask if everything was ok, did anyone take our next round of orders, would we like more green tea? Especially the tea…after the third time being asked, Kristen and I accepted more green tea (I felt rather pressured lol) but that didn’t stop them popping up every five minutes to ask again.
It was great to meet some people around my age here J the three of us got along well, and after we were done eating we all went to Kristen’s apartment to continue our chatting and drink some wine. She drove us home around 11, with plans to meet up for a movie on Tuesday since it’s cheap night.
Today I’ve been a complete slug. I got up at 800, had some tea, read for two hours, fell asleep off and on for another couple hours then finally made myself get in the shower in an attempt to wake up properly. I’ve just finished lunch and coffee, and am typing this up in MS Word in advance before heading to Natas to post it and check email etc. It’s pretty grey here today sadly, but I need to get downtown to the bank anyway to deposit my subletter’s cheques. No real plans other than that today, it’s a lazy Sunday J
There’s some bird out my window going ‘wee-oo, wee-oo, pew, pew, pew”….hmm…cardinal? Strange robin? Starling doing a mixed imitation? I heard and saw some house finches across the street yesterday as well. I think the hardest thing to get used to here (in terms of birds) is the ducks. There are ducks everywhere. My apartment is in the middle of suburbia so when I was sitting on my step yesterday it was normal to see house sparrows flying around, starlings everywhere, some grackles, and then this DUCK comes winging over the rooftops. A mallard. It looked so ridiculous to me that I burst out laughing. Guess I’ll have to get over that pretty quickly.
BTW...Natas cafe has the best soy lattes and quinoa brownies I've ever had. I swear I'm not a hippie.
